USB Overdrive overview
USB Overdrive is a macOS device driver that handles any USB or Bluetooth mouse, keyboard, trackball, joystick, gamepad or gaming device from any manufacturer and lets you configure it either globally or for specific applications.
USB Overdrive reads all kinds of wheels, buttons, keys, switches and controls and assigns them to useful actions like clicking, typing, scrolling, launching, opening documents and so forth. It can easily handle several USB devices at once and can assign different settings to each one.

- Version 5.1 requires macOS 12 or macOS 11. Please use version 4.0.1 in Catalina.
- If you have version 4 or earlier installed, you must uninstall it before installing version 5.1.

- The user interface is now an app inside the Applications folder. It is no longer found in System Preferences.

Well, I've emailed the developer 3 times in the last 4 months and have not gotten a reply. Last update was in 2021. I think this software is abandonware now. I just bought Steermouse.

Well, it's now been nine days with no response from Alessandro. When my new Mac finally arrives I will be going with Steer Mouse. At least I will get some support if needed.
I've experienced poor support in the past, as have most of us, but I can't remember when I was last completely ignored. I guess I've joined the others who have experienced the same with this developer.

USB Overdrive itself is worthy of five stars. Support is worthy of no stars. I first wrote for support five days ago as 4.0.3 doesn't recognize my mouse. 4.0.1 had no problem. Like others who have posted, I have heard nothing.

As of 1/25/22 I have noticed that the official website for USB overdrive appears to have been hacked. If you click on any hyperlink on the page unrelated text is shown (world war II and Cialis). If anyone knows how to contact the developer please le him know.
